SAM  IS A 2nd generation saxophone player born   and    raised   in New  York City of  Puerto Rican parents. Sam started playing saxophone at the age of seven, and continues his father's  sax playing legacy to date. Sam is quoted as saying "I wish my father were alive today to see how far I've taken this beautiful art form that he has instilled in  me. "(father Raul Julius Velez Leon-) Musical Director for the famous Barnum & Bailey circus).  Sam attended Juliard School Of Music and at the age of 18 released  his first single. (LATIN BLUES) .Shortly after, he released his first album  on (Ghetto Records) , that held the top ten for over 16 weeks in(Billboard Latin Salsa Charts). Today, 22 albums later, Sam finds himself wearing many hats!    When not on tour with "    SAMMY SAX & THE MD'S"  . Sam  is head producer for "Canaan Lake Records Inc." and oversees all arrangements, recordings and releases. Sam Leon is currently touring the metropolitan area and has been seen on Saturday Night Live, Westbury Music Fair, Madison Square Gardens, Paramount Theater, Nassau Coliseum, Meadowlands Arena, Radio City Music Hall, Village Gate , P.B.S. Specials and across the country..
